Curious what a Material Passport is? Check out this article first.

When you publish a Product or Material Passport on the 3E Exchange Digital Product Passport Library (DPPL), you have the opportunity to choose one of three DPPL Permission settings. These levels were created to allow you to manage and share your product information on 3E Exchange while also protecting your privacy. The three levels range from highly restricted where no one will be able to see or even search for your published passport to fully public where anyone can search and see all Product details.

I'll run through the options from most restricted to least restricted.

Option #1: Unlisted

This is the most strict and secretive access option. As the name insinuates, an "Unlisted" Passport will not be listed on your company page, and will not be searchable on the Digital Product Passport Library (DPPL).

You can share the Passport with individual email addresses. As demonstrated in the screenshot below. Once you share the Passport, they will have access to whatever criteria you chose to include during the 'Customize' step of the publishing workflow.

Option #2: Restricted

This is the middle ground option. Your Passport name and category will be searchable on the Digital Product Passport Library (DPPL) and visible on your Company Page. Any further product data will not be available. Someone will have to 'Request Access' from you. You'll receive a message in your request inbox. If you choose to grant access, they will see the full Product Passport (including whatever criteria you chose to include during the 'Customize' step of the publishing workflow.)

The advantages of this access level are that anyone can see that your product exists and can reach out to you if they want more information.

Option #3: Public

This is the most unrestricted option. Your Passport will be searchable on the Digital Product Passport Library (DPPL) and will live on your Company Page. Anyone browsing the Digital Product Passport Library (DPPL) will be able to see the full Product Passport (as chosen during the 'Customize' step of the publishing workflow.)

Managing Permission of Existing Passports

Are you curious what passports you've published or what permission level they are? If you click on Digital Product Passport Library (DPPL) on the left toolbar, you'll see a tab called 'Manage Passports' dropdown. You can see what passports you've created and what access level they are here.
