Overview

3E Exchange provides a powerful editor for working with Products and Materials. From the editor, you can make changes to the data (e.g. Bill of Materials or BOM), generate reports (e.g. HPD), and view hazard data at a glance. The best way to create a BOM is via data imports, and then edit using the below setting, but you can also just create your BOM by editing a blank product as well.

Editing your Data

3E Exchange's editor works like a spreadsheet. Click on a cell and type to edit it. Or use the text input at the top of the spreadsheet for more detailed editing.

You can't directly edit the RN, Chemical Name, Overall Rating, Regulatory Flag, or Custom Flag columns. These columns are automatically set by 3E Exchange based on the substance or chemical that is assigned to a row.

To assign a substance to a row, hover the mouse over a cell in the RN column, and click the edit button. Then search for a substance. Click "Select" to assign a given substance.

You can choose which columns should be displayed and in what order by selecting the "Columns" drop down and clicking the "Edit Column Views" button at the top.

To perform operations on a row, select a row's checkbox (on the far left of the row), and use the Edit and Insert menus at the top of the page. You can indent/de-indent a row, move a row up or down, delete a row, insert a row, and insert an existing linked material from your library. You can also save a row and the rows beneath it in the level hierarchy as a linked material.

You can also import new information into an existing product/material data record. To do so, click on the 'Import Data' workflow when you are in the data record that needs updating. Here, you will see three import options for this specific data record.

Once you've selected an option, there will be a warning to let you know that the new information imported will overwrite your existing data. You can click 'Ok' to proceed to the next window, where you will be able to select the spreadsheet or SDS to use for import, as well as other import settings. For more information around data import, see our Data Import Guide.

Use all these editing capabilities and you can create an accurate BOM that you can then use to report out on your product!

Checking Hazard Information

To view a detailed substance page, including hazard tables and full restricted and regulatory list memberships, simply click the RN or Chemical Name.

Each row is assigned an Overall Rating based on the the substance in the row, and the hazards in the rows underneath it in the level hierarchy. Overall Rating is cumulative, so a given row inherits the worst rating from any of the rows beneath it in the level hierarchy.

To compare the hazard tables of substances underneath a level hierarchy, click the Overall Rating.

Substances that are on regulatory lists will be flagged in the Regulatory Flag icon. Click the flag to view the lists in question.

To screen against a set of custom lists, click the "Custom Flag" button in the header of the Custom Flag column. Then choose the lists you want to flag against.
